June 26 2010: Casey and Ted Take the First Annual SSBM Club CHampionship Title

Casey and Ted were the winners in our first annual South Simcoe Bassmasters club championship team event on Lake Eugenia on opening day 2010.  They weighed in a bad over 16 lbs.  They also took home the greedy bucks.  Nice pay day boys!

In second was John P. and his brother in-law.

In third was Stewart and Jeremy

Stewart took big fish with a 5.04lb largie.

It was a good day for te whole club... we all got bass thumb :-).

Casey and Quinton Take Top Spot in Barrie Bassmasters' Pike Tourney

Two of our club members took home top spot and a nice chunk of change in this year's Barrie Basmasters.pike tournament on Lake Simcoe.  Here's how their day went, as described by Quiton:

Casey and I had not pre fished the lake at all so we got out a map of the lake and took a good look at it .We looked for lots of weed cover and fast drops we had one place in mind so that's where we where going to blast off to .

We where boat 9... our number was called and well we where off  to our first  spot  We spotted  pike on bottom  in 3-5 feet of water and thought we where off to a good start .....we could not get hooked up.  We were in to bass and more bass so we deiced to go a bit deeper pitching our raps and spoons to find out there was no fish in the  bay we were in .

Time now was around 10.00 so I said to Casey: i once was fishing up in deep bay a few years a go  we should try it out and  we headed in to  deep bay.  I changed up to a  lucky  devil and Casey put on a Williams  and we  moved in to 8 -12 ' of water with heavy mat weed

Cassey hooks up to our first pike of the day but his netting man did not get to the back of the boat in time so a little disgusted with what happen I went back to the front of the boat and picked my rod up to find out that  i had one on so I bring him in  and it was a little hammer head  that did not measure out so it had to go back .

Time is  now 11 30 no fish in boat NOT looking good. in the same spot I pitched  my red devil out to have a pike follow right up and hammers it beside the boat. Casey is  right on it with the net. The first fish is in the boat that would weigh up and also would take big fish .

We moved around deep bay longer and Casey gets in to our seconded pike which turned out to be our next largest  fish on the Williams, in the same depth of water.  We then decided to try our luck and try to go a bit deeper but all we could get in to where WALLEYE so back to what was working 5 10  feet of water the magic depth number.  We fished and fished any weeds we could find.  Our third fish that we had caught  was small but was over the 18 inches .The time now is 2 pm

We had our 3 fish and moved out of deep bay in to another back bay and found more of the same weed structure  and we  fished . Casey had caught the next fish that turned out 3lbs 10 ounces and then it became a game: I would catch one 3lbs 11o he would get one 3 lbs 12 ounces  but from that point on we could not get rid of our 3rd fish to cull him out .

Casey and i had to have caught 10 -15 pike but could not cull our last one out it got to a point where we said we had to catch another 4 -6  lb er to place or stand a chance  Time now would be  3:20pm  and could not get hooked up with anything bigger then our 3 lbs 12 ounces

Weigh in was at 3:30 and still had our one small so we had headed in to weigh in to find out that we had taken the leader bored in weight at 15.75 lbs and big fish at  5 lbs 9 0unces  but there was still 20 boats to weigh in .

There was one team that  was knocking on our door from Barrie but they where 7 0unces behind us and just a few ounces of our big fish but as the boats kept coming in the weights kept getting smaller  and made us happier!

The last boat had to weigh in and we would be in the clear but it turned out that it was  pro David Choung and he is known to weigh big bags ...he brings his fish to the scale and didn't beat our weight!  In first place it would be mister Casey and myself Quinton winning everything there was to be won.  It turned out to be a good pay day of $1000.00 each so if I had to say anything about pike fishing don t mess with success: stick with what works the good old Williams and Red Devil.
